Originally sold for less than 1 billion rials ($42,000), the compact SUV was later offered for 1.04 billion rials ($43,600), only to jump by a further 100 million rials ($4,200) on Wednesday—an increase declared by company officials, intended to notify buyers of the extra sum they presently owe to the automaker, reported domestic news blog Digiato.

According to the company officials, the price hike will be applied to cars presold earlier which have not been delivered yet.

Powered by a turbocharged 1.6L engine with 163 horsepower, Peugeot 2008 is equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission, six airbags, a dual zone air conditioning system, cruise control, speed limiter, electronic stability program, as well as various driving modes (sport and snow), Financial Tribune reported.

The Peugeot-IKCO joint venture named IKAP (Iran Khodro Automobiles Peugeot) is set to introduce two other models of Peugeot namely the hatchback 208, and the sedan 301 into Iran’s auto market in the near future.
