Upstream Steel Output Registers Growth in Ten Months

EghtesadOnline: The upstream steel industry registered growth in the production of iron ore concentrate, pellet and direct reduced iron during the first 10 months of the current fiscal year (March 2020-January 2021), latest data released by the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization showed.

The IMIDRO report takes into account the output of major producers, hence the overall production should be higher than the figures quoted in the following text:

 

 

Concentrate

A total of 41.64 million tons of iron ore concentrate were produced during the first 10 months of the current fiscal year, marking a 6% increase compared with the same period of last year. 

According to IMIDRO, Golgohar Mining and Industrial Complex had the highest share of the output, by producing 13.874 million tons. The number is 4% higher than the same period of last year. 

Chadormalu Mining and Industrial Complex came next with 9.53 million tons (up 20% YOY), followed by Middle East Mines and Mining Industries Development Holding Company with 5.3 million tons (up 22% YOY) and Goharzamin Iron Ore Company with 3.72 million tons (down 2% YoY) of output during the 10-month period.

Other major producers included Iran Central Iron Ore Company with 3.48 million tons (down 12% YOY), National Development Company with 2.06 million tons (up 4% YOY) and Opal Parsian Sangan with 1.92 million tons (down 25% YOY).

Sabanour Mining and Industrial Development Company recorded the highest increase in iron ore concentrate production during the first 10 months of the fiscal year. The company’s output increased by 33% to 1.23 million tons. 

Iron ore concentrate output during the 10th Iranian month (Dec. 21-Jan. 19) amounted to 4.098 million tons to register a 5% growth compared with the same period of last year. 

Golgohar Mining and Industrial Complex was the leading producer during the month, solely accounting for 1.347 million tons of the monthly output. Chadormalu Mining and Industrial Complex followed with 966,891 tons of monthly output.

Middle East Mines and Mining Industries Development Holding Company registered the highest increase during the month under review of 30%.

 

 

Pellet

Pellet output of major steel mills amounted to 38.51 million tons during the period, posting a growth of 12% compared with the same period of the previous year.

Golgohar was again the largest producer with 10.5 million tons (up 4% YOY), followed by Mobarakeh Steel Company with 6.24 million tons (up 10% YOY), MIDHCO with 5.36 million (up 14% YOY), Khouzestan Steel Company with 4.94 million tons (unchanged compared with last year’s similar period) and Chadormalu with 3.09 million tons (up 4% YOY).

Other major pellet producers included Opal Parsian Sangan with 2.78 million tons (up 6% YOY), Sangan Mineral and Industrial Company with 2.58 million tons (up 46% YOY) and Khorasan Steel Company with 1.33 million tons (up 9% YOY). 

Sangan Mineral and Industrial Company registered the largest growth of 46% in pellet output during the above-mentioned period, compared with the same period of last year. 

Pellet production witnessed a 25% year-on-year increase during the 10th month of the Iranian year to 3.95 million tons, IMIDRO’s data show. 

KSC registered the highest jump of 102% in output during the month to Jan. 19. 

  

 

Direct-Reduced Iron 

The production of direct-reduced iron stood at 25.55 million tons during the first 10 months of the fiscal year, up 8% YOY. Mobarakeh accounted for the largest share of output with 6.21 million tons (up 14% YOY), followed by KSC with 3.47 million tons (up 6% YOY), Golgohar Complex with 2.47 million tons, South Kaveh Steel Company with 1.44 million tons (up 14% YOY), Hormozgan Steel Company with 1.24 tons (up 1.35% YOY), Chadormalu Steel Company with 1.31 million tons (up 1% YOY), and Saba Steel Complex with 1.14 million tons (up 10% YOY).

As per the figures, Saba Steel Company recorded the highest growth in DRI output in the said period, with a 92% increase compared with the same period of last year. 

DRI production reached 2.631 million tons during the month to Jan. 19. indicating a 2% growth YOY. Mobarakeh Steel Company produced 345,895 tons of DRI to lead the market during the 10th month. MSC's monthly output registered a 2% fall, year-on-year.
