EghtesadOnline:  The UAE delegation handed over the letter on Wednesday in a meeting in Tehran with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

The UAE diplomat was reported by media to be carrying a letter from the US President for the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

Donald Trump pulled his country out of the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal unilaterally in May 2018 and reasserted his futile Maximum Pressure Campaign against Tehran when he returned to the White House earlier this year. Iran has said it will not negotiate under pressure. Washington has admitted that its call for talks is aimed at depriving Iran of its peaceful nuclear program and its defensive missiles.

Most recently, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution told a gathering of university students that "Iran is not after war but it will give a definitive, decisive response if threatened."

The claim by the US President that they are ready to negotiate is a deception of world public opinion," Ayatollah Khamenei asserted.

"Iran spent several years negotiating a nuclear deal, but the US president tore down the deal," Ayatollah Khamenei said, explaining more that "When we know that they do not comply with talks, there is no need for such talks."

"If we had wanted to acquire nuclear weapons, the United States could not have stopped us," the Leader said. / Mehr
