Iran dismisses Trump’s claim about renewed negotiation process

Iran has dismissed the US president's claim about negotiations with Iran, saying there is currently no such process in place, given Washington’s breaches of previous commitments and excessive demands.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei made the remarks on Wednesday in response to reporters' questions about Donald Trump’s unfounded claims during his meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at the White House that Tehran wants to make a deal “very badly” and that the US is beginning a renewed diplomatic process.

Pointing to the history of repeated US deviation from the peaceful resolution of the issues, he said Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has repeatedly emphasized that there is no logical justification to engage with a party that lacks the reciprocity of negotiation, boasts of its deadly military aggression against Iran, and seeks to dictate.

Iran has repeatedly clarified that it does not shy away from dialogue, insisting that any negotiation requires mutual respect and that the parties to a negotiation process must not pursue maximalist demands or attempt to impose terms.

In response to another question regarding a letter recently sent by President Masoud Pezeshkina to Prince bin Salman, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson said the message delivered through the head of Iran’s Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization concerned bilateral issues.

Pezeshkian commended Saudi Arabia for the services provided to Iranian pilgrims during last year's Hajj ceremony and the importance of continuing cooperation and coordination for the successful Hajj this year, Baqaei explained./irna
