Iran’s Mission in Vienna Warns IAEA of Consequences of US Threats
Iran’s permanent mission in Vienna addressed a letter to the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), warning against the repercussions of recent threats by the US president against Iran.
Reacting to the inflammatory remarks by US President Donald Trump against Iran, the Iranian representative in Vienna sent a letter to IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.
In the letter, the Iranian mission warned that recent threats by the US against Iran’s peaceful nuclear program could have serious consequences for the global nuclear non-proliferation regime.
The letter also warned that normalizing such threats would jeopardize the credibility of the IAEA and undermine the international trust built on the agency’s verification work.
The Iranian mission emphasized that such reckless actions should be condemned and that those responsible must be held fully accountable.
During a joint press conference with the prime minister of the Zionist regime on December 29, 2025, the US president stated, "If Iran continues with its missile program, yes, I support striking Iran. If they continue with their nuclear program, the strike should be immediate.” Trump blatantly threatened Iran by saying that, "We're going to have to knock them down. We'll knock them down. We'll knock the hell out of them.”
In a letter to UN chief on December 30, Iran’s UN ambassador said the US president’s provocative and escalatory statements threatening the use of force, directed against Iran, constitute a manifest and flagrant violation of the Charter of the United Nations, in particular Article 2(4), which unequivocally prohibits both the use and the threat of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any State.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran unequivocally condemns these reckless threats and reaffirms its inherent and inalienable right to self-defense in accordance with Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations against any armed attack or act of aggression. Iran will exercise this right decisively and proportionately should its sovereignty, territorial integrity, people, or vital national interests be subjected to further acts of aggression” the UN envoy stated./tasnim
