Pakistan Reaffirms Support for Iran’s Sovereignty, Rejects Foreign Interference
Pakistan has reaffirmed its firm support for Iran’s sovereignty and its opposition to any foreign interference in the country’s internal affairs, a Pakistani foreign ministry spokesperson said on Thursday.
Speaking at a weekly press briefing in Islamabad, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi said Pakistan supports diplomatic engagement with Iran and backs efforts to revive the nuclear deal.
“We oppose any foreign interference in Iran’s internal affairs, and, at the same time, Pakistan never comments on the internal affairs of other countries,” Andrabi said.
He added, “Pakistan’s stance is principled; we do not interfere in or comment on the internal affairs of other countries. However, we strongly oppose any foreign interference in the affairs of other countries, especially the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
Meanwhile, Pakistan reiterated that Iran’s internal situation is a purely domestic matter that must remain free from outside influence, 24NewsHD television reported on Thursday.
According to the broadcaster, Andrabi said at the briefing that Islamabad has consistently rejected any external involvement in Iran’s affairs.
He also recalled that Pakistan had opposed the 12-day aggression against Tehran last year./tasnim
