Israel seeks to weaken, divide regional countries: Qalibaf

Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf has warned regional countries about the Israeli plots, saying the regime is pursuing a policy to weaken and divide regional countries, in order to gain control over them.

News ID: 2002569

Qalibaf made the remarks at a meeting with visiting Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, who is leading a delegation to Tehran on Sunday afternoon.

He said that the Israeli regime and its current Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with the support of the United States and Europe, have always tried to deprive countries in the region of their independence through sowing discord and conflicts, in order to become the sole military power in the region.

Qalibaf said that the US-backed Israeli war in June last year, was part of the regime's regional agenda as the Israeli leadership and its Western backers thought they could destroy the Islamic Republic's aerospace power with military strikes. However, the top parliamentarian emphasized that the Iranian armed forces, and the people, prevented the enemies from achieving their sinister goals.

He said that the US and Israel, in pursuit of their nefarious agenda, orchestrated another terrorist act by supporting and aiding rioters and saboteurs on the Iranian streets, but were defeated just like the 12-day imposed war.

During the meeting, Qlibaf also congratulated Iraq for the successful parliamentary elections, calling the vote "a turning point for the government and people of country."

On Iran-Iraq relations, especially in the fields of trade exchanges and infrastructure connections, he said that the deeper contact between governments and people of the two countries would incur more positive impacts.

For his part, Iraq's foreign minister promised that he would raise and clarify the recent terrorist war in Iran with his international counterparts./irna
