Tehran chooses peace over war, ready for fair agreement: FM Araghchi
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says that the Islamic Republic has consistently prioritized peace over conflict and remains prepared for a fair agreement, warning that hostile US actions, from sanctions to military threats, have failed.
In an article published in The Wall Street Journal, Araghchi stressed that Washington must change its approach and treat Iran with respect.
The foreign minister further highlighted recent unrest in Iran, noting that initially peaceful protests were hijacked by domestic and foreign terrorist elements, leading to violence.
He explained that temporary internet restrictions were necessary to contain the unrest and that communications are now gradually being restored.
Araghchi pointed out that during these violent incidents, both civilians and law enforcement personnel were targeted, and public infrastructure, hospitals, and other facilities were damaged. Normal life has now returned to the country, he stated.
The foreign minister criticized US President Donald Trump for interfering in Iran’s internal affairs, writing that threats aimed at drawing the US into another war, particularly benefiting the Israeli regime, had resulted in maximum bloodshed. He also referenced former secretary of state Mike Pompeo’s statements regarding Mossad influence as part of this pattern.
Araghchi warned that any new attacks against Iran would be met with a decisive response, stressing that US hostility has consistently failed. He concluded that Washington must adopt a new policy of respect and constructive engagement toward Tehran./irna
