Muslim Unity Key to Addressing Regional Tensions: Iranian President
President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian said unity and cohesion among Islamic nations are vital guarantees for lasting security, stability, and peace in the region.
In a telephone conversation with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Tuesday, Pezeshkian highlighted Iran’s principled approach, which is grounded in domestic unity and constructive engagement with Islamic countries.
The president expressed appreciation for the support extended by Islamic nations to the Iranian people amid recent developments, stressing that solidarity among Muslim countries plays a crucial role in strengthening regional cooperation and stability.
Reviewing recent regional and international developments, Pezeshkian outlined the Iranian government’s domestic and foreign policies. He emphasized that preserving national unity among Iran’s ethnic and religious groups remains a top priority. At the regional level, he said Iran seeks to deepen friendly relations and expand cooperation with Muslim nations based on the principles of Islamic brotherhood.
Referring to external pressures and hostilities against Iran, including economic sanctions and foreign interference, the president said such measures have failed to weaken the resilience and awareness of the Iranian nation. He underscored that instability in the region benefits no party and cautioned against psychological and political operations aimed at undermining regional security.
Addressing calls by some Western countries for renewed negotiations, Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran’s longstanding support for dialogue within international legal frameworks, provided that national rights and dignity are fully respected. He reiterated Iran’s readiness to back any initiative that contributes to peace, de-escalation, and the prevention of conflict.
In response, bin Salman welcomed the dialogue and reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to regional stability, security, and development.
He stressed the importance of solidarity among Islamic countries and said Riyadh opposes any form of aggression or escalation against Iran. The crown prince also expressed Saudi Arabia’s willingness to cooperate with Iran and other regional states to help establish lasting peace and security throughout the region./tasnim
