Speaker asks National Security Commission to pursue expulsion of European military attachés from Iran
Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf has instructed the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission to follow up on the expulsion of European military attachés from Iran.
The issue was raised by Alireza Salimi, a cleric and lawmaker from Tehran, during Parliament’s open session on Sunday. Salimi called for the expulsion of military attachés stationed at European countries’ embassies in Tehran, arguing that they should be regarded as “terrorists” because the armies of their respective countries have been declared terrorist entities.
The declaration was made during Sunday’s open session in reaction to the European Union’s designation of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization earlier this week.
Citing Parliament’s Strategic Action Law, Salimi said European armies have been declared terrorist organizations and therefore their military attachés should be expelled from Iran immediately. “They are now terrorists, and allowing them to remain in the country is against the law,” he added, also calling on the Iranian Foreign Ministry to pursue the matter.
In response to Salimi’s remarks, Qalibaf instructed Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission to pursue the issue and coordinate with the Foreign Ministry./irna
