President Hails Ancient Cypress as Symbol of Iran’s Ancient Civilization

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian highlighted the ancient Abarkuh cypress tree as a symbol of Iran’s deep historical and civilizational roots, saying the land was already known as Iran when the tree first took root thousands of years ago.

In a post on his X account, Pezeshkian referred to the ancient Abarkuh cypress tree —regarded as Asia’s oldest living organism— and wrote, “Asia's oldest living organism, the ancient Abarkuh cypress tree - at least 4500 years old - is rooted in land that was already known as Iran at the time.”

The “Sarv-e Abarkuh”, also known as the Cypress of Abarkuh, is believed to be more than 4,500 years old and is considered one of the oldest living organisms in Asia.
