Iran Prioritizes Implementation of War-Termination MoU: Spokesman
The spokesperson for Iran’s negotiating delegation said Tehran is currently focused on ensuring the implementation of the Islamabad memorandum of understanding on ending the imposed war and has not yet entered negotiations on a final agreement.
Speaking to reporters, Esmaeil Baqaei outlined the latest developments regarding the implementation of the memorandum of understanding on ending the US-Israeli war of aggression.
Underscoring Tehran’s focus on carrying out the understanding’s provisions, Baqaei said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran’s current priority is to ensure the full implementation of the provisions of the memorandum of understanding. In this regard, we are pursuing our demands seriously.”
Addressing questions about implementation of various provisions of the MoU, including those concerning oil exports and access to Iran’s frozen assets, Baqaei said the US had issued the necessary authorizations under Article 10 concerning oil exports and that Iran was closely monitoring the implementation process.
Regarding Article 11 on the release of Iran’s frozen assets, he said efforts to operationalize the commitment are also underway, adding that an Iranian expert delegation will travel to Doha later this week to follow up on the matter, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.
Asked about the possible launch of negotiations on a final agreement within the framework of the designated working groups, Baqaei said such talks have not yet begun.
“Under Article 13 of the memorandum of understanding, the start of negotiations on the final agreement is conditional upon the commencement and continued implementation of Articles 1, 4, 5, 10, and 11,” he stated.
Commenting on media reports about a planned visit by senior US representatives to Doha during the same period, Baqaei stressed that no meetings with the American side are scheduled.
“There will be no negotiating meetings with the US side at any level in the coming days. The reported visit of US representatives to Qatar is unrelated to the Iranian delegation’s trip, which is solely aimed at following up implementation of the memorandum of understanding, including Article 11,” he explained./tasnim
