News ID: 737178

Talking in one of his classes Monday morning, the Supreme Leader said he preferred first to elaborate on a few points he had mentioned in the past days regarding the activities of certain former politicians in the months remaining till the next Iranian presidential elections slated for May 19, 2017.

According to IRNA, he said he wanted to remove certain misunderstandings about some of his earlier remarks.

“Well, I think there are some misunderstandings; some people have misinterpreted my remarks,” the Supreme Leader said.

“In itself, a misunderstanding is not an evil thing. However, it will turn into a bad phenomenon if it leads to disputes spreading through the cyberspace, encouraging some to say this and some others to say that, causing antagonism and discontent among the faithful brothers.”

Ayatollah Khamenei went on to stress his focus on proximity, closeness of hearts and unity among the faithful people and revolutionary forces. He said that people should not say things which could cause divergence among these forces.

“Well, yes, a certain person came to me, and I told him not to do a certain thing believing it would be to the benefit of both the person himself and the country. I did not command him not to do that thing; rather, I said I did not see it in his interest to do that thing. I did say that. Well, this is a routine thing. One has to tell a brother in faith the things he perceives, interprets and thinks would benefit him. And, basically, I have a better understanding of the country’s situation compared with most of other people. And also, I know better the persons who used to have hundreds of sessions and meetings with me. Considering the situation of that certain person and the conditions of the country, well, one goes on to tell him that his involvement in a certain issue will create a bi-polar atmosphere in the country. This bi-polar situation will damage the country. I don’t think it a good idea for you to get involved. Well, that is not a very important issue. This is a very natural thing, very simple thing. Yes, I did offer this advice to one of the gentlemen, to one of the brothers. Now, should this become a source of dispute and argument among the faithful revolutionaries in a way that some say he (the Supreme Leader) did say that and some others say he (the Supreme Leader) did not say it or some others say he (the Supreme Leader) did not say it behind a microphone (meaning in public). Well, now here you are. This is a microphone.” (Laughter of the Supreme Leader and the participants)

The Supreme Leader also stressed that enemies, too, are waiting for an opportunity: “Stay vigilant. What does this all have to with the “Farda Radio” or the BBC Radio? They focus on it, they discuss it, they analyze it. What is the reason for that? Why do they do this? What do their actions mean? It means enemies are seeking an opportunity. So what should we do? We should move on the opposite direction.”

“This is a quite normal situation. As I did say; well you are my faithful brother. I think a certain thing will be in your interest and I say that to you. Seemingly, there is no problem with it. It is a good thing. And it is also an obligation from the religious point of view. And wishing others welfare is also an obligation. … one has to advise people. …. I advised a certain person not to get involved. I didn’t order him; but people moved on saying he (the Supreme Leader) ordered that certain person, commanded that person not to do that. No. I just said I did not see it in his welfare. This is a good thing. It is not a bad thing.”

Ayatollah Khamenei stressed that divergence among revolutionary people over such issues is not to the benefit of the country.

He said now the country needed unity among all the faithful revolutionaries, so they should avoid differences.
