President Rouhani, Moldovan counterpart opt for expanding relations

EghtesadOnline: President Hassan Rouhani in a meeting on Sunday with his Moldovan counterpart Igor Dodon, urged using all opportunities and potentials to enhance ties between Tehran and Chisinau.
'The Islamic Republic of Iran was among the first countries that recognized the independence of Moldova and established friendly ties with the country,' President Rouhani told Dodon who is visiting Iran.
The Iranian president went on to say that there are good grounds for boosting cooperation between Iran and Moldova in different spheres, including tourism, agriculture, transportations and transit of commodities.
Referring to the South-North Corridor, linking the Indian Ocean to Russia, China, Central Asia and Eastern Europe, President Rouhani said that Moldova can also be part of the corridor.
“The corridor is going to create a fine transit route and Moldova could also be linked via Iranian railroad,” he said.
By relying on its high capability to produce natural gas, oil, and gas condensates, Iran could meet a major part of Moldova's energy demands, Rouhani said.
The Iranian President also urged enhancement of bilateral banking ties between the two nations, according to IRNA.
“Development of banking ties is going to give momentum to business and economic ties between Iran and Moldova,” Rouhani said.
Meanwhile, the Moldovan President congratulated the 38th victory anniversary of the Islamic Revolution (Feb 10) describing Iran as a great country with ancient history and civilization.
President Dodon said urged the need to benefit from existing potentials between the two capitals to promote bilateral cooperation in the fields of economic, trade and investment activities.
Inviting his Iranian counterpart to pay a visit to Moldova, President Dodon called for expansion of Tehran-Chisinau cooperation in the fields of transportation, transit, energy as well as economic and banking relations.
