Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will hold a lottery on September 20, 2021. Those who won the lottery will be sent an invitation in two weeks. Lottery winners after receive their invitation will have two months to submit their sponsorship applications to the Canadian government.
Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) is an event that will hold for applicants who express a willingness to be sponsors of their parents or grandparents prior. Parents and Grandparents and partner Program had announced a window for candidates to register between October and November 2020.
In fall 2020, some citizens of Canada filled out an online application form in order to announce their readiness to be a sponsor for parents and grandparents; thereafter the immigration department opted for 10000 probable sponsors in early winter. IRCC also remarked In addition to people who had previously been selected, 30,000 applicants would be invited later in the year, again with the same draw process. Those who expressed an interest in sponsorship in 2020, but were not invited to complete the application, can participate in the 2021 lottery. This program is designed to enable Canadian residents and citizens to sponsor their parents and grandparents to immigrate to Canada. Parents and grandparents who win the lottery will be able to apply for permanent residence and may later citizenship.
Who are eligible for the Parents and Grandparents Program lottery?
Canadian citizens and permanent residents who would like to sponsor their parents and grandparents to immigrate to Canada under the desirable PGP need to meet the following requirements:
· Be at least 18 years old
· Having enough facilities, income, and means to be a sponsor for their parents and grandparents
· Applicants are strongly encouraged to calculate the amount of money they need for financial support before apply to the program.
The most important factor to determine if someone is eligible for sponsorship is Minimum Necessary Income (MNI). After the applicant filled out an online form in which has expressed an interest in sponsorship, Proof of minimum income must be provided. Applicants who are selected to submit the application will not be accepted if they do not meet the requirements.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will evaluate applicants based on the 2020 fiscal year--These decisions were made due to the Corona pandemic--, but it will not assess the usual MNI plus 30 percent. Additionally, Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) and Employment Insurance (EI) benefits can be calculated towards MNI for the 2020 fiscal year.
All Canadian provinces require financial statements for the past three years except Quebec, which asks potential sponsors to prove that they have had sufficient financial resources in the last year in order to support their families. Residents of Quebec who wish to financially support their parents and grandparents have their income assessed by Quebec’s Immigration Ministry, based on the province’s income requirements.
Potential sponsors must give the undertaking to warrant that they are financially responsible for the family members they are sponsoring since they become permanent residents of Canada. This assurance must be submitted to whether IRCC or the Government of Quebec.
Residents of the rest of Canada have a 20 years commitment to financially support their parents and grandparents, but on the other hand for residents of Quebec, The length of the undertaking is 10 years.
