S. Korean huge container ship berths at Iranian port
EghtesadOnline: South Korean Glory Hyundai container ship berthed at Shahid Rajaei port in southern province of Hormozgan, an Iranian official said on Saturday.
Director General of Hormuzgan Ports and Maritime Department Ebrahim Idani said the ship can carry a total number of 4,800 containers.
He added the container ship has unloaded some 995 Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit (TEU) of imported containers and loaded some 1,421 TEU of exported containers in Bandar Shahid Rajaei, Iran’s biggest commercial port, according to ISNA.
Idani underscored that the ship is considered as the 14th Direct Shipping Line that has returned to Shahid Rajaei port following the implementation of the landmark nuclear deal, reached in July 2105, between Iran and the world six big powers. The deal is also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
He added the ship has started its journey from several Chinese ports and is set to berth in Singapore port in its next stop.
Idani noted that the shipping line is expected to call at Shahid Rajaei port to load and unload 4,000 TEU of containers twice a week.
The official reiterated that over 680,000 TEU of containers have been loaded and unloaded in the port since the start of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2016).
He noted the figure was 27 percent higher that the same period in the previous year.
The Shahid Rajaei port has turned into a major hub for shipping activities due to suitable facilities considered by Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization for international vessels calling at the port.
