Ammar al-Hakim elected as chairman of National Iraqi Alliance: Source

The election was taken place during an emergency meeting held by the heads of the NIA (the Shiite Islamic party) on Sunday evening, the source said without elaborating, reports IRNA.

The heads of the National Iraqi Alliance had not been able for a long time to reach an agreement on election of the new chairman.

Hakim, leader of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, is known as a moderate figure who has almost good relations with all political parties in Iraq.
