Islamic Awakening Assembly meeting underlines boosting unity, fighting extremism: Velayati
EghtesadOnline: Secretary General of the Islamic Awakening Assembly Ali Akbar Velayati said that the Tenth Meeting of the assembly's High Council stressed the need for promoting unity in the Islamic world and fighting extremism and terrorist groups such Daesh and Al-Nusra.
Talking to IRNA on Friday, Velayati who is also head of the Strategic Research Center of the Expediency Council, added that the reason for holding the meeting in less than tow months since the ninth edition held in Baghdad, was the speed at which developments took place in the past two months.
He also listed victory in Aleppo, imminent triumph in Mosul, developments happened in the international scene as well as the conspiracies against the Muslim states in the form of sewing discord and presenting a violent image of Islam as among the other reasons behind organizing the Islamic Awakening Assembly's meeting.
The number of participants grew this year compared with the previous meeting, he said, noting that over 100 Shia and Sunni thinkers and veterans presented thier views to the event.
The meeting discussed pathology of Islamic awakening and its future, countering with diversionary thought of Takfirism, Palestine as major issue of Islamic world and the need for promoting Islamic resistant front to confront the Zionist regime, Velayati said.
Meanwhile, all the participants urged reinforcing Islamic unity and voiced their opposition to all diversions, underlining the necessity for fighting Takfiri group, diversionary currents and extremism.
Tenth Session of Supreme Council of World Assembly of Islamic Awakening was held in Tehran Azadi Hotel with 110 Shia and Sunni scholars in attendance.
