MP: Iranian, Armenian parliaments can help boost economy

EghtesadOnline: Head of Majlis (parliament) economic commission Mohammad Reza Pour-Ibrahimi in a meeting with Armenian Ambassador to Iran Artashes Tomanian on Wednesday discussed economic relations and interactions between the two countries.

He pointed to deep and old cultural and historical ties between the two nations, and said that this background prepares appropriate ground for expansion of cooperation in the fields of tourism and trade.

Pour-Ibrahimi underlined role and position of parliaments in boosting economic ties and preparing grounds for development of relations in different sectors of economy between the two states, IRNA reported.

The member of parliament underlined importance of exchanging experiences between specialized commissions of the two parliaments, and added that cooperation between economic commission of Majlis with Armenian parliament commission on mine and banking issues are important.

Ambassador Tomanian expressed pleasure over the expansion of cultural, economic and agricultural ties between the two countries, and added that relations between Iran and Armenia have always been upon reciprocal respect and that Iran has special position in the region.

He expressed hope that cooperation between the two states could be extended to the parliamentary arena, as well as economic and agriculture.

Tomanian called for holding a meeting with members of economic commission of Majlis (parliament) to consider ways to develop trade relations.
