Date Exports Earn $10m in 1 Month
EghtesadOnline: More than 10,600 tons of different kinds of dates worth 373 billion rials (approx. $10 million) were exported from Iran during the first month of the current fiscal year (March 21-April 20), according to the latest data released by the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration.
The main export destinations for Iranian dates during the one-month period were Australia, the UK, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Finland, Kazakhstan, Canada, Lebanon, Poland, New Zealand, the UAE, Pakistan, Germany, Afghanistan, Turkey, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, the US, Denmark, Sweden, Iraq, Russia, Malaysia, the Netherlands and India, Young Journalists Club reported.
Iran is the world’s second biggest producer of dates and the biggest exporter of the crop. Production stood at close to 1.2 million tons in the last Iranian year that ended on March 20, 2017.
About 20% of overall production, worth around $300 million, were exported to Europe, North America, the Far East and Russia, according to Financial Tribune.
