"Dushanbe has no problem with Tehran and will pay off its debt based on the timetable agreed in talks between the two sides," Mirza Esmaeilzadeh was also quoted as saying by IRNA.

Pointing to the terms of a contract between the two states, Esmaeilzadeh noted that Iran will be allowed to use the power plant for the first 14 years and then it will be handed over to the Tajik side.

Sangtoudeh-2, a hydroelectric power plant located 180 kilometers from the Tajik capital, was jointly constructed by Iran and Tajikistan and went on stream in 2013, according to Financial Tribune.

Reportedly, Iran invested $180 million in the project, while Tajik investment accounted for $40 million of the total.
