Tehran, Baghdad to Expand ICT Cooperation
EghtesadOnline: Telecoms Minister Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi conferred with Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari on expansion of bilateral cooperation in the information and communications technology sector.
The talks were held during a visit to Baghdad by Jahromi last week, the ministry’s official website reported.
The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding on telecoms cooperation and exchange of technologies in the field of ICT, according to Financial Tribune.
During the meeting, Jahromi said, “Iranian technology firms are ready to expand ties with their Iraqi counterparts.”
Bilateral collaborations in the fields of data transit and cybersecurity were other topics discussed during the visit.
The Iranian minister also referred to the occasion of Arbaeen (coinciding with Nov. 9) as one of the world’s largest pilgrimage gatherings in the Iraqi city of Karbala and called for facilitating network access for Iranian pilgrims. According to Jahromi, Iranian and Iraqi operators will deliver free Internet services to the pilgrims during the annual religious occasion. Talks are also being held over giving a 50% discount to pilgrims on roaming services.
