Iran to open Interests Section office in Jeddah: FM spokesman

EghtesadOnline: Iranian foreign ministry spokesman announced that Iran’s Interests Section office will be opened in the Saudi city of Jeddah in near future.

News ID: 780188

At his weekly press conference, Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi said, “according to the signed documents, Switzerland has been chosen as the representative of the interests of Iran and Saudi Arabia. Switzerland will represent the interests of both countries and it is slated that Iran’s Interests Section office to be opened in Jeddah but the exact date for opening the office has not yet been finalized”.

Referring to recent remarks made against Iran in Riyadh at a meeting of foreign ministers and military chiefs of a Saudi-led coalition waging war against Yemen, the Iranian spokesman dismissed as absurd and groundless Riyadh’s claims that Tehran is obstructing attempts to restore peace to Yemen, according to ISNA.

“Since the very early hours of the [Saudi-led] aggression against Yemen, Iran has condemned it and called for an end to the war,” he said.

“The Saudi regime and its allies are used to playing blame games on others to cover up their crimes,” Qassemi said, adding, “The issues brought up at the Riyadh meeting are not something new and have turned into an old habit for the Saudi regime”.

Qasemi also criticized Trump for undermining the 2015 agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

“Today the world is standing against Trump on the issue of JCPOA and we hear a united global voice in support of the deal and in opposition to Tramp’s policies,” he said, adding that the US president “is getting more isolated day by day.”
