“Most of these fatalities were linked to falling objects, not following safety rules and falls from a high place (mostly at construction sites),” Mehr News Agency quoted Ahmad Moshirian as saying. According to Mohammad Bakhshi Mohebbi, deputy attorney general of Mashhad, a total of 812 workers died as a result of occupational accidents last year (March 206-17). More than 2.3 million workers die worldwide every year as a result of occupational accidents or work-related diseases, the International Labor Organization reported. ILO estimates that the annual cost to the global economy from accidents and work-related diseases alone is a staggering $3 trillion, according to Financial Tribune.
