Synthetic Oil Supplied to Abadan, Isfahan Refineries

EghtesadOnline: Close to 28 million barrels of synthetic oil have been supplied by the National Iranian South Oil Company via pipelines to Abadan and Isfahan refineries as feedstock over the last 14 months, the head of the company’s Production Department said.

“The plan to produce synthetic oil is aimed at making a better use of gas condensates produced in abundance in the South Pars Gas Field off the Persian Gulf,” Gholamreza Nourani was also quoted as saying by IRNA.

Synthetic oil, a mixture of heavy crude and condensates, is converted to value-added products like motor oil and lubricants in refineries, he added.

Nourani noted that as extraction from the gas field is on the rise, more condensates are produced and the surplus is blended with heavy crude for use as feedstock in refining complexes.

NISOC, which contributes nearly 80% of Iran’s crude oil output, has defined 28 development projects for implementation in the fields it operates in the southern and southwestern regions.

According to the official, development projects are underway to increase output in two oilfields in southwest Iran. The projects are in Zilaei Field in Khuzestan Province and Siahmakan Field in Kohgilouyeh-Boyerahmad.

Zilaei Field is operated by the National Iranian South Oil Company that has started installing the first rig for drilling nine wells.

The field on average produces 19,000 barrels of crude oil per day and is estimated to hold 80 billion cubic meters of oil in place.

The development of Siahmakan Field, also operated by NISOC, includes the drilling of four development wells, construction of a segregation complex, a booster cluster and an oil pressure booster with a capacity of 10,000 barrels per day, plus a 12-inch underground gas pipeline and an 8-inch oil pipeline.
