SCI Surveys Consumer Price Changes at Provincial Level
EghtesadOnline: The growth in Consumer Price Index in the sixth month of the current Iranian year (Aug. 23-Sept. 22) was the highest (5.3%) in Yazd Province compared with the month before.
According to data released by the Statistical Center of Iran, Qom Province posted the lowest month-on-month inflation of 1.8% last month.
The overall CPI, using the Iranian year to March 2017 as the base year, stood at 351.1 in the same month, indicating a 3.9% rise compared with the previous month.
West Azarbaijan’s goods and services consumer inflation registered a rise of 53.7% during the month ending Sept. 22 compared with the similar month of the year before, the highest among all provinces. The year-on-year CPI growth was the lowest for Hamedan with 38.8%, compared with that of other Iranian provinces. The overall goods and services CPI in Iran registered a year-on-year increase of 43.7% in the same month.
The average goods and services CPI in Iran for the 12-month period ending Sept. 22 increased by 45.8% compared with last year’s corresponding period. Ilam saw the highest average annual inflation with 53.1% while Qom posted the lowest of 41.3%.
Urban Households
The overall CPI calculated for urban areas stood at 347.5 during the sixth month of the current Iranian year, indicating a 4% rise compared with the previous month. The growth in CPI measured for provincial urban households compared with the previous month was the highest (5.5%) for Yazd while Sistan-Baluchestan and South Khorasan recorded the lowest monthly inflation growth of 2.3% compared with other provinces.
The index registered an average year-on-year increase of 42.9% for urban areas. Goods and services CPI of West Azarbaijan’s urban areas registered a year-on-year rise of 53.1% during the month under review, the highest among all provinces. The CPI increase in urban areas was the lowest for Hamedan with 38.9% YOY.
The average CPI in urban areas for the 12-month period increased by 45.1% compared with last year’s corresponding period. Households living in urban areas of Ilam saw the highest annual inflation (52.4%) while those of Qom witnessed the lowest annual inflation (41.3%) among all Iranian provinces.
Rural Households
The overall CPI calculated for rural areas stood at 370.9 in the month under review, which indicate a 3.6% increase compared with the previous month.
The growth in CPI of rural households compared with the previous month was highest for Qom with 5.8%. This is while rural households living in Sistan-Baluchestan saw a 1.6% increase in the prices of goods and services compared with the month before, the lowest rate compared with other provinces.
The index registered an average year-on-year increase of 47.8% for rural areas in the same month. CPI of West Azarbaijan’s rural areas registered a YOY increase of 55.1% during the sixth month of the Iranian year, the highest among all provinces, whereas the year-on-year CPI increase was the lowest for Hamedan with 38.5% compared with other provincial rural areas.
The goods and services CPI of rural areas in the 12-month period increased by 49.7% compared with last year’s corresponding period. Ilam registered the highest annual inflation in rural areas (55.9%) while Tehran posted the lowest annual inflation (43.2%).
Tehran Province
The average goods and services CPI in the 12-month period ending Sept. 22 for Tehran Province wherein lies the capital city increased by 41.8% compared with the corresponding period of last year.
SCI had put Tehran’s average annual inflation rate for the preceding Iranian month, which ended on Aug. 22, at 41.8%.
The consumer inflation for the month under review registered an increase of 39.1% year-on-year. The year-on-year inflation of the preceding month was 37.6%.
The overall CPI (using the Iranian year to March 2017 as the base year) of Tehran Province stood at 353.5 in the period under review, indicating a 4.4% rise compared with the month before. Month-on-month consumer inflation was 3.1% for the preceding month.
SCI put Tehran Province’s urban and rural 12-month inflation for the month under review at 41.8% and 43.2%, respectively.
CPI registered a year-on-year increase of 39% for urban areas and 43.2% for rural areas in the month under review.
The overall CPI reached 353.4 for urban households and 360.6 for rural households, indicating a month-on-month increase of 4.4% for urban areas and 3.8% for rural areas.
