EghtesadOnline: South Pars Gas Complex produced 250 million barrels of gas condensates in 2018, managing director of the major gas complex said Saturday.

News ID: 747068

"Output showed 5% or 9 million barrel growth in 2018 compared to the corresponding period in 2017 when production was around 237 million," Hadi Hashemzadeh Farhang was quoted as saying by ISNA.

SPGC accounts for 67% and 92% of total natural gas and gas condensate output respectively in Iran.

Over 650,000 barrels of gas condensate per day is supplied to Persian Gulf Star Refinery in Hormozgan Province and Nouri Petrochemical Complex in southern Bushehr Province as feedstock, Financial Tribune quoted him as saying.

"The share of fossil fuel in Iran's energy basket is 74%, of which 50% is produced by SPGC.”

The official went on to say that South Pars accounts for 96% of liquefied petroleum gas, 100% of ethane and 55% of sulfur produced in Iran.

Data pertaining to 2018 show a rise in output of a variety of byproducts, namely ethane (42%), LPG (35%) and sulfur (35%), compared to the year before.

South Pars, the world's largest gas field and shared between Iran and Qatar, was developed in 24 phases of which 22 phases are operating and phase 14 is being completed. Phase 11 has not been developed yet.

After the French energy giant Total and China National Petroleum Corporation cancelled their agreements to develop Phase 11, the National Iranian Oil Company has not announced any new plans related to this phase.
