300,000 Coins Presold in 8 Days

EghtesadOnline: A total of 302,511 gold coins were pre-purchased by applicants, according to Bank Melli, the lender in charge of implementing the Central Bank of Iran’s initiative to hold gold coin presale to balance rates in the foreign exchange and coin markets.

The scheme began on Feb. 17 and after eight days, 62,785 and 230,726 coins were presold with maturity periods of six and 12 months, which were respectively priced at 14 million rials ($313) and 13 million rials ($290), Bank Melli reported on its website.

More than 352,000 coins have been sold as part of the gold coin auctions that began on Nov. 25. Each benchmark Bahar Azadi gold coin was traded for 15.42 million rials ($335) on Tuesday in Tehran, according to Financial Tribune.
