Araqchi Holds Talks in Iraq on Funeral Arrangements for Martyred Leader

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi held separate meetings with the governors of Iraq’s holy cities of Karbala and Najaf to coordinate arrangements for the funeral procession of martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.

During his official visit to Iraq, Araqchi met with Karbala Governor Nasif Jassim Al-Khattabi and Najaf Governor Yousef Kanawi as part of consultations with Iraqi authorities and coordination efforts related to the funeral ceremonies.

In the meetings, the Iraqi officials expressed condolences over the martyrdom of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, as well as a number of Iranian officials and citizens during the military aggression carried out by the Israeli regime and the United States against Iran.

The governor of Karbala praised the resilience and steadfastness of the Iranian nation and welcomed the Islamic Republic’s decision to hold funeral ceremonies for the martyred Leader in Iraq. He announced the full readiness of provincial authorities and local institutions to mobilize all available capacities to host pilgrims and mourners and ensure the ceremonies are held in an appropriate and dignified manner.

The governor of Najaf also extended condolences over the martyrdom of the Leader, describing him as an unparalleled and multifaceted figure whose life left lasting achievements and whose martyrdom would remain a source of inspiration for the Islamic Ummah and freedom-seeking people worldwide.

Kanawi further emphasized the readiness of Najaf’s local authorities to deploy all administrative, service, and security capacities to ensure the ceremonies are conducted in the most dignified and magnificent manner, describing the occasion as a historic event that would further strengthen ties of brotherhood and friendship between the Iranian and Iraqi nations.

For his part, Araqchi expressed appreciation for the positions adopted by Iraqi officials, senior religious authorities, and the people of Iraq in expressing solidarity with the Iranian nation.

He also thanked Iraqi authorities and local officials in Karbala and Najaf for their cooperation and commitment to organizing the funeral ceremonies at the holy shrines, describing such solidarity as a reflection of the deep religious, historical, and humanitarian bonds between the two nations.

The two sides also exchanged views on logistical preparations, facilities, and organizational requirements for the ceremonies and agreed to continue coordination through the Embassy of Iran in Baghdad and Iran’s Consulates General in Karbala and Najaf./tasnim
