Araqchi in Qatar to Offer Condolences over Ex-Emir's Passing

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi traveled to Doha on Wednesday afternoon to meet with senior Qatari officials and offer condolences following the passing of the country's former emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

According to Iran's Foreign Ministry, Araqchi's visit is aimed at conveying Iran's condolences to the leadership and people of Qatar over the death of the former emir.

Earlier, Araqchi had expressed his condolences in a message on his X account, offering sympathy to Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Al Thani family, and the people of Qatar.

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani passed away on Sunday at the age of 74. Qatar declared four days of national mourning, with flags lowered to half-mast and government offices closed.

Sheikh Hamad served as Qatar's emir from 1995 to 2013, overseeing a period of rapid economic development before voluntarily transferring power to his son, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani./tasnim
