According to New York Times, Rightel (the third mobile operator in Iran) and AT&T (an American multinational telecommunications conglomerate) have started cooperating with each other in order to provide mobile roaming for their users in Iran and the US.

‌Due to economic sanctions and the absence of relations between Iran and the US, Iranian and American citizens were not able to use their local sim cards while traveling between the countries, reports ISNA.

The New York Times recently published an article about an Iranian-American citizen who by chance found out that his AT&T phone is receiving signals while traveling in Iran.

The Director of the third mobile operator in Iran Majid Sadri touched the subject and said the company’s first priority is to provide the users with voice and data service everywhere they go, adding that signing a deal with AT&T can pave the ground in this regard for all Iranians in both countries.

Sadri underlined that Rightel has international roaming service in 87 countries and 123 operators, noting the users can enjoy their phone conversations with local sim cards in 5 continents.

A spokesman for AT&T stated the company was providing voice and data service in Iran to its customers with American phones through a partnership with a local firm, RighTel. An employee at the Iranian company, fully owned by a state entity, confirmed the partnership.
