Envoy, Russian Diplomat Discuss Case of Detained Journalist
EghtesadOnline: The Iranian ambassador in Moscow held talks with a Russian deputy foreign minister on Friday over a detained Russian journalist in Iran.
Mehdi Sanaei told the Russian deputy foregn minister, Igor Morgulov, that the journalist Yulia Yuzik would soon be released, according to a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Following Yuzik's detention in Tehran, Iran's envoy was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry "to facilitate a quick clarification of the circumstances of the incident and the protection of the rights of the Russian citizen”, ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, wrote on her Facebook page.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abbas Mousavi had said earlier in the day that the Russian journalist was detained to seek explanations and she would soon be released, Sputnik reported.
According to Financial Tribune, her relatives have claimed that Yuzik was arrested on suspicion of spying.
