Iran, Belarus to sign agreements on scientific cooperation

EghtesadOnline: Iran's Minister of Science Mohammad Farhadi and Education Minister of Belarus Mihail A. Zhuravkov are to sign agreements and finalized drafts on scientific, educational and technology fields.

A ten-member delegation headed by the Iranian minister arrived in Belarus on Wednesday to discuss Tehran-Minsk cooperation in the fields of educational, scientific and technological activities, IRNA reports.

Besides finalizing previously made agreements, both sides are to discuss prospects for mutual cooperation on academic activities, advanced technologies and also for promoting the level of scientific relations between the two countries.

While in Minsk, the Iranian minister is also to hold separate talks with Education Minister of Belarus Mihail A. Zhuravkov, Public Health Minister Vasily I. Zharko, Head of National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and State Committee for Science and Technology Alexander Shumilin.

The Iranian delegation is to meet with heads of the Belarusian universities as about 1,600 Iranian students are currently studying in that country. The Iranian delegation will also visit universities and scientific and research centers of Belarus.

Deputy Science Minister for International Affairs Hossein Salar Amoli, Deputy Minister of Health and Medical Education for education Hamid Akbari, Head of Presidency Center for Innovation and Technology Cooperation (CITC) Seyyed Ali Akrami Far, Head of Iran Polymer and Petrochemical Institute (IPPI) Mahdi Nekoumanesh and the Chancellor of K. N. Toosi University of Technology Ali Khaki Sedigh are members of the Iranian delegation.

Meanwhile, Iranian ambassador to Minsk Mohammad Reza Sabouri has said that Iran and Belarus can have fruitful cooperation in all scientific fields as the two countries have made great achievements in scientific, medical, treatment, new technologies, aerospace, and peaceful nuclear activities.

In the wake of a Joint Commission Meeting chaired by Iranian Minister of Industries, Mines and Trade Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh and Belarusian Minister of Industry Vitaly M. Vovk, Iran and Belarus signed a road map on May 4, 2016, to increase the level of bilateral economic ties from the present $75m per year to $250m in 2017.

It is worth noting that Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and the Prime Minister of Belarus Andrei Kobyakov announced that developing ties with Iran, economic relations in particular, is the stable part of the agenda of the Belarusian government regarding its relations with Tehran.
