Iran, Italy sign joint statement to begin projects

EghtesadOnine: Minister of Road and Urban Development Abbas Akhundi, who is in Rome heading a delegation, met with Italian Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Graziano Delrio here on Thursday and signed a joint statement to begin two projects in construction of a high-speed train in Iran.

According to IRNA, in a meeting in venue of Infrastructure Ministry in Rome, the two sides signed a joint statement to begin high-speed train project between Qom-Arak with a length 146 kilometers from March 2017, and high-speed train project between Tehran-Hamadan for 260 kilometers in May 2017 and a training course in September 2016.

In a joint press conference, Akhundi said that during visit of President Hassan Rouhani to Italy, 'we had successful negotiation with Minister of Infrastructure in direction of development' of cooperation in infrastructure affairs including road, rail, air and maritime and we defined different projects and determined time table for them.

Mr. Delrio is to visit Tehran on December to control all projects together.

Delrio underlined the importance of good and developing relations between the two countries and said that our mutual ties is friendly and upon reciprocal respect.

Following meetings in past months and signing memorandum of understanding (MoUs) in the sector of railway, an agreement to develop Iran's north-south corridor is to be signed on Thursday afternoon between Italian road construction company 'Anas' and Iran's Infrastructure Development Company.

The two sides also discussed about framework of an agreement concerning investment, construction, maintenance and operation of road corridor number 10 of Iran from Bazargan border point in northwest of Iran to Imam Khomeini Port in southwest.

The two sides expressed pleasure for signing document on cooperation progress between Iran and Italy Railway Companies on construction high-speed rails in the route of Qom-Arak, Tehran-Hamadan, center for testing railway, a rent-to-own agreement for 22 sets of high-speed trains for Tehran-Isfahan route and purchasing 500 passenger wagons from Italian companies and holding training courses in Iran.

The two sides also underlined development of cooperation concerning construction and operation in Iranian airports and execution of cooperation MoU context between Iran's Airports Company and Italian company of ' SEA' to develop Tehran Mehrabad Airport and MoU on cooperation between Iran's Airport Company with Italian company of ' Vitali' in the field of investment, construction and equipment of new terminal of Tabriz Airport as well as acceleration in execution operation and removing existed obstacles.
