Iran unveils herbal medicine for treating Alzheimer's

EghtesadOnline: The unveiling ceremony of a type of herbal medicine called ‘Melitropic’ which can be used in treating Alzheimer's disease held in Alborz province in west of Tehran on Saturday.

The Melitropic which is considered as the first medicine for treating Alzheimer's disease in Iran and across the globe was unveiled in a ceremony attended by Health Minister Hassan Qazizadeh Hashemi. 

Using the country’s ancient and indigenous knowledge in treating brain disorders, the Iranian researchers of Jihad University have succeeded in producing Melitropic herbal medicine. 

Talking to IRNA, head of Iranian Institute of Medicinal Plants at Jihad University Shams Ali Rezazadeh underscored that a series of experiments were conducted on 42 patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer's in the age range of 65-80 for studies on the production of this medicine.

Rezazadeh said the patients in the experiment group were given dracocephalum extract and the control group was given placebos.

After four months of studies, the result showed significantly that the mild to moderate Alzheimer's was well controlled in those patients who used dracocephalum extract and the anxiety disorder and irritability symptoms were considerably reduced in the experiment group.
