Euro-4 Gasoline in 40 Cities in Iran
EghtesadOnline: Euro-4 standard gasoline is being sold in 40 Iranian cities, the environmental chief said on Wednesday, stressing that using natural gas as feedstock in petrochemical and power plants instead of mazut has notably decreased air pollution and its associated illnesses such as asthma.
“The newly-launched Persian Gulf Star refinery (in the southern Hormozgan Province) will help the distribution of Euro-4 quality gasoline across the country," Massoumeh Ebtekar, head of the Department of Environment, was quoted as saying by Shana. "In 2013, mazut accounted for 45% of power plants' feedstock. It declined to 8% in 2016," she said, noting that plans are in place to completely replace mazut by natural gas in the current fiscal that started in March. Pointing to research conducted by the Ministry of Health and Medical Education, Ebtekar added that there has been a significant decline in diseases related to air pollution. Commenting on the number of “clean and healthy” days in Tehran Province, she said the figure has increased from 205 in 2013 to 277 in 2016, according to Financial Tribune.
