Sarakhs Rail Transit Up 16%

EghtesadOnline: Rail transit via the northeastern Sarakhs border crossing on Iran-Turkmenistan border during the first three months of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 21-June 21) stood at 205,000 tons, registering a 16% rise compared with the corresponding period of a year before, the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development reported on its website.

The goods in transit mainly included fertilizer, sulfur, cotton and chemicals. Iran is offering discounts of up to 50% on rail transit to encourage countries in its neighborhood and beyond to ship their products through Iranian railroads. Sarakhs in the eastern North Khorasan Province accounts for 72% of Iran’s total rail transit, according to Financial Tribune.
