According to reports, the arrival of 35 to 40 trucks of tomatoes imported from Iran in the markets of the Pakistani city of Karachi has resulted in an immediate decrease of prices of the commodity at a considerable level in the country, IRNA reported.

In recent days major price hike was seen in tomato prices and the vegetable which is essential part of Pakistan cuisine, reached to about 2 US dollars per kilogram in Pakistan.

Pakistan used to import tomatoes mostly from India and Afghanistan but recently due to shortage of imports from these two neighbors, there has been a sudden price hike in the country.

Now, following a decision by the government of Pakistan to import tomato from Iran, venders are expecting that the prices of tomato would further decrease.
