EghtesadOnline: Non-oil exports from the southern Shahid Rajaee Port during the first three months of the current Iranian year (March 21-June 21) stood at more than 8.87 million tons, registering a 3.8% increase compared with the similar period of last year.
“About 1.77 million tons of non-oil commodities were imported through the port over the same period, which shows a 30% decline year-on-year,” Director General of Hormozgan Ports and Maritime Organization Allahmorad Afifipour was quoted as saying by the news portal of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development.
He added that more than 1.14 million tons of oil products were exported from Shahid Rajaee in Q1, indicating a 14.8% YOY growth.
Oil product imports registered a 53% YOY decline to stand at around 333,000 tons, according to Financial Tribune.
A total of 19.58 million tons of commodities were loaded and unloaded in Shahid Rajaee Port during the three-month period, more than 13 million tons of which were non-oil and the remaining 6.57 million tons were oil products.
Afifipour noted that 1,000 vessels entered the port in spring, which shows a 4.7% increase, 844 of which weighed over 1,000 tons.
Container exports from the port stood at 105 TEUs from March 21 to June 21, indicating a 12.5% YOY increase.
The port handled 146,000 TEUs of imported goods during the period to register a 19.4% YOY decline.
Container loading and unloading at the port stood at 567,421 TEUs in Q1.
Daryoush Baqer-Javan, director general of Hormozgan Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization, said last week that 703,671 tons of commodities were transited via Shahid Rajaee Port during the three-month period, which accounted for close to 29% of all the incoming goods in transit.
The port was the most active point of entry among the country’s 32 border terminals over the period.
Located 23 kilometers west of the port city of Bandar Abbas, the capital of Hormozgan Province, Shahid Rajaee Port is Iran’s biggest container port at the mouth of the Strait of Hormuz.
Over half of Iran’s commercial trading is carried out at Shahid Rajaee. The port complex also accounts for over 85% of all container throughput in the country.
Launched in 1985, the port has expanded every year thereafter. Today it is connected to 80 top ports across the world.
