SCI Signs MoU With Nomadic Affairs Organization
EghtesadOnline: The Statistical Center of Iran has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Nomadic Affairs Organization.
Signed on Tuesday, the agreement involves the exchange of information and statistics about nomadic communities in Iran, SCI reported on its website.
According to Shapour Alaei-Moqaddam, the deputy head of Nomadic Affairs Organization, nomads in Iran produce more than 200,000 tons of red meat per year.
The country’s annual red meat output revolves around 860,000 tons, of which nomads have a 23.25% share, according to Financial Tribune.
Iran has 1.2 million nomads spread across 59% of the country's land, breeding 22 million light livestock, which account for 28% of all livestock in the country.
According to Karamali Qandali, the head of Nomadic Affairs Organization, 70% of the nomadic communities’ livelihood is based on livestock.
Overall, Iranian nomads produce 6 million tons of agricultural products annually.
Nomads have a 35% share in Iran’s carpet exports and a similar percentage in handicraft production.
