Prime Minister of Syria Hussein Arnous met with Iranian First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber during his official visit to Tehran on Saturday.

During the Syrian premier’s visit, the supreme delegation of economic cooperation between Iran and Syria held its 15th meeting after a long hiatus.

The economic session resulted in the signing of six agreements between the two nations, including a deal on free trade and memoranda of understanding pertaining to tourism, media, sports, museums and libraries.

The two delegations also agreed to launch shipping routes and promote transportation between the two states.

Hailing the “strategic, close and cordial” relations between Tehran and Damascus, Mokhber expressed Iran’s determination to broaden economic cooperation with Syria.

“The Iranian government and nation pay special regard for Syria and give priority to the calm, independence, success and welfare of the Syrian people,” the Iranian vice president added.

He also pointed to the frustration of the enemies in the face of the Syrian people’s resistance, hoping for the complete withdrawal of foreign forces from Syria and the region.

For his part, Arnous lauded his country’s deep-rooted, historical and strategic ties with Iran, saying the Syrian nation will never forget the Iranian government and people’s supports.

He also highlighted the significant role that Iran can play in the reconstruction of Syria, saying Damascus considers Iran as a major partner in this process.

The two officials also weighed plans to relieve the pains of Palestinian people and condemned the Israeli regime’s brutal onslaught against Gaza. / Tasnim
