Iran’s Saeid Abdevali wins bronze in men’s Greco-Roman wrestling

EghtesadOnline: Iranian wrestler Saeid Morad Abdevali won a bronze medal in the men’s Greco-Roman 75-kilogram category after defeating Hungary’s Péter Bácsi in Brazil.

Abdevali won the match against the Hungarian champion 5-2 after beating Serbian athlete Viktor Nemeš to reach the third-place playoff at the Carioca Arena 2 in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday, according to ISNA.

The first day of the Rio game’s wrestling events did not start out quite well for Iran as multiple world champion Hamid Souryan lost 5-4 to Japanese wrestler Shinobu Ota in the game’s opening set, despite an initial 4-0 lead.

After defeating Souryan in the 59-kilogram competition, Shinobu Ota won 6-0 against Kazakhstan’s Almat Kebispayev. Souryan later lost his chance for a bronze after being downed by technical superiority despite a 7-0-lead against Kebispayev. Suoryan has six world titles plus a gold medal from the London Olympic Games in 2012.
