Larijani: US assumed Iraq a US state after Saddam's fall

EghtesadOnline: Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said on Saturday that the US assumed that Iraq will be a US state after fall of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.

Larijani made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Iraqi Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri, according to IRNA.

Iran has always backed Muslim nations in the region such as Iraq, he said.

The US sought to appoint American Generals as Iraqi governors, but, the eminent Iraqi personalities and Ayatollah Sistani on top and Iraqi people stood up to the ominous plot, he said.

There exists many commonalities between the two nations with common stands on regional and international developments helping bolster relations, Larijani said.

The unrest and the measures of the Takfiri terrorist groups will be to the benefit of US and Zionist regime, he said.

Under the current circumstances the issue of Palestine has been undermined and all Islamic countries got involved in their domestic issues, he said adding that the Islamic countries have been abolished and some other Islamic countries such as Yemen have been invaded by others.

A great number of people in Yemen have been killed due to the attack of one Islamic state to them and in Bahrain we are witnessing bitter events, he said.

Under such circumstances some Islamic states try to resolve their problems with the illegitimate Zionist regime which should be regarded as a catastrophe, he said.

Iraq is a rich country which can have a democratic and powerful government but the enemies of the Iraqi nation and the region pursue their own interests, he said.

Iraqi premier has called for lifting visa requirement between the two countries and the Iranian side is ready to welcome the proposal, he said.

Iranian trade companies are ready to broaden level of trade exchange with Iraq, Larijani said.

The Iraqi parliament speaker for his part said expansion of bilateral cooperation is among top priorities of the Iraqi government and parliament.

'Iran is the harbinger of assistance to the Iraqi people but we advise some specific countries to help Iraq in fight with terrorism,' he said.

Iraq and the Islamic Republic of Iran based on their agreement should fight with terrorists as well as Daesh, he said.

The Iraqi parliament speaker leading a delegation arrived in Tehran on Saturday morning and conferred with Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and President Hassan Rouhani on issues of mutual interests as well as regional developments.
