Iranian deputy FM, Chinese envoy on Syria meet in Tehran

EghtesadOnline: Iranian deputy foreign minister Hossein Jaberi Ansari met with the special envoy of Chinese government on Syria Xie Xiaoyan in Tehran.

Xie Xiaoyan’s visit to Tehran is aimed at exchanging views with Iranian officials on the Syrian crisis.

During this meeting, the Chinese envoy evaluated Astana meetings as a positive measure initiated by Iran, Russia, and Turkey with beneficial results in resolving the Syrian crisis and underlined the importance of undertaking necessary measures to keep the cease-fire on, ISNA reported.

“Fighting against terrorism is an important component of the solution to the Syrian crisis and if terrorists are not suppressed properly, the cease-fire will not be applicable,” he said as referred to his country’s long-standing and comprehensive relations with Iran and Beijing's desire to close and continuous exchange with Tehran on the Syrian issue.

Hossein Jaberi Ansari in his turn said: “Astana meetings are intended to speed the political procedure of solving the crisis in Syria with stabilizing the cease-fire and moving toward national compromise in the Arab country hence concentrating on the political solution and moving in the right direction is essential”.

“Formation of the trilateral committee for observing the cease-fire in Syria is one of the major accomplishments of Astana meetings and I hope the consolidation of the cease-fire yields in the completion of the procedure of national reconciliation and the end of the crisis in Syria” he added.
