Asghar Farhadi not informed about identity of interviewing Israeli reporter

EghtesadOnline: The highly acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi was not informed about the identity of an Israeli reporter with whom he had an interview last year, said the public relations office of Farhadi's Oscar-winning film “The Salesman” in a statement.

The Israeli daily Haaretz published a detailed interview with Farhadi on Tuesday. The interview was conducted after the Salesman world premiere in the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.

According to IRNA, the Salesman was screened at Cannes Film Festival last summer when it brought two awards for the Iranian Oscar-winning director Asghar Farhadi and actor Shahab Hosseini for the best screenplay and the best actor respectively.

According to the statement, Farhadi attended about 50 interviews after The Salesman world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival and all interviews were organized by the movie's international distributer.

“It is possible that the Israeli reporter did not introduce himself during the interview or, if he did so, the organizer failed to inform the distinguished Iranian filmmaker of the reporter’s identity,” said the statement.

“The Salesman” was later screened at the Golden Globes conceding the award to Paul Verhoeven's thriller 'Elle'.

In its third international appearance, The Salesman represented Iran at the Oscars 2017 where it won the second Academy Award for Farhadi.

Farhadi won his first Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2012 by 'A Separation' which was the first Iranian film to win the award.
