Gov’t Keen to Increase Cooperation With Judiciary

EghtesadOnline: President Hassan Rouhani congratulated Hojjatoleslam Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi on his appointment as judiciary chief, saying his administration is keen to increase cooperation with the judicial branch.

Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei issued a decree on Thursday, naming Raeisi as the judiciary chief for a five-year term.

In his congratulatory message on Saturday, Rouhani said, “I express the administration’s readiness for cooperation and interaction with the judiciary to help uphold the lofty ideals of the Islamic establishment and ensure the rigorous enforcement of the constitution.”

The president said he is hopeful that under Raeisi’s chairmanship, the judiciary will make major strides "to fulfill popular demands for promoting social justice, safeguarding civil rights, mounting a serious and full-scale anti-corruption campaign, preserving various aspects of security, including investment security and backing sound economic practices”.

In his message, according to Financial Tribune, Rouhani also thanked former judiciary chief, Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani, for his “efforts and services”.

Raeisi has held several top-level posts in the judiciary. He was the prosecutor of several cities, including Karaj, Hamedan and Tehran, before serving as the prosecutor general of the country and later became the head of the General Inspectorate Organization of Iran, which is affiliated to the judiciary. He also served as deputy judiciary chief under Amoli Larijani and the late Ayatollah Mahmoud Shahroudi.

In his decree, Ayatollah Khamenei strongly advised Raeisi to consider a number of points in the implementation of his proposed judicial reforms, including undertaking efficient interaction with the other two branches of power (executive and legislative).
