Mohammad Javad Zarif made the remarks in the opening speech of the ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement on Thursday, according to IRNA.
Today, interference in other counties' internal affairs as well as occupation and extremism has not only resulted in unprecedented threats against world development, security and peace but also unfortunately, it has exposed to risk the solidarity among NAM member states, Zarif said.
He urged the need for restraint to be exercised by the countries in the face of global challenges and difficult situation and their adherence to the Charter of the United Nations as well as the international rules and regulations.
Violent extremism and terrorism and their unpleasant consequences including the growing conflicts and humanitarian crises are threats which demand serious attention by the NAM member states, Zarif added.
Iranian foreign minister also congratulated Venezuelan nation and government on assuming the NAM rotating presidency.
He also hailed the theme of “Peace, Sovereignty and Solidarity for Development” for 17th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit.
