Iraqi Kurdistan referendum is a strategic mistake: Iran

In an interview with Al-Jazeera, Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi stressed that the referendum on Kurdish independence is a strategic mistake that threatens Iraq's security and stability and create separation and chaos in the region.

"Insisting on holding the referendum is contrary to the political process in Iraq and will damage all efforts in fighting terrorism in the region," ISNA quoted him as saying.

"The separation of Kurdistan resembles a disaster that the region will confront with it. The measure will lead the Kurds of Iraq and the other nations of the region into a crisis that will not benefit anyone, "Qassemi noted.
