The head of Iran Telecommunication Research Center (ITRC), Dr. Mohammad Khansari stated, “We have prepared a five year projection plan regarding base technologies essential for development, and we are waiting to acquire the approval of the Communication and Information Technology Ministry and its affiliations to begin the implementation stage”.
According to the Public Relation Center of the ICT, Dr. Khansari reported of the finalization of the principal plans for these technologies, adding, “What we have accomplished is to prepare a future roadmap for the ICT Ministry in various aspects of infrastructure development for the country regarding new technologies, business services, and market economy, including their legal, security and communication positions.”
According to ISNA, he also expressed that work has already started in certain areas, saying, “We have acted in regard with topics of interest of the ICT Ministry which required practical research, such as the role and position of the Ministry in supporting and planning for development of children and young adults’ virtual environment services, which had already been allocated to the ITRC in the 12th government, and the draft document of this sector shall be prepared soon and published for public access. For this reason, a specialized webpage has also been designed and started which can be accessed at cop.itrc.ac.ir”.
He emphasized on domestic potentials and capabilities for implementing projects, expressing, “In case of projects with no domestic experience, we benefit from the experience and advices of the ITU as the international regulatory entity.”
Dr. Khansari highlighted the timely adoption and acquisition of new technologies as a key factor which can result in appropriate development and progress in the country, especially in case of knowledge-base and domestic companies, and included, “Telecommunication sectors normally require more backing and support, but in the area of Information Technology the role of the government is mostly focused on facilitating, de-regularization or regulatory services, and risk-reduction support for the investments of the private sector”.
He went on to mention the final stages of the contract endorsement for companies whose licenses have been approved for the first phase of the ICT technology park, to establish their operations and commence activities, saying, “We have prepared good infrastructures for the establishment of these companies in the park, which are also going to be further developed and completed gradually”.
Dr. Khansari concluded, “It is our intention to quickly prepare the facilities for welcoming major companies in the technology park, aiming for the permanent establishment of 120 knowledge-based companies there within the next five years”.
