The Islamic Republic of Iran has been elected as the president of the International Olive Council by majority vote.

Iran was unanimously elected as the president of the International Olive Council at a meeting in the IOC’s headquarters in Spain on November 23.

Addressing the event, Iran’s Ambassador to Madrid Reza Zabib delivered a message from the Iranian minister of agriculture, who has outlined Iran's policies and plans for the development of olive cultivation.

Iran has been elected the IOC president after two decades of membership in the council.

Iran’s Ministry of Agriculture is planning to hold specialized meetings of the council, including the meeting of the 63rd Advisory Committee in Tehran.

The International Olive Council is an intergovernmental organization that was founded in 1959 under the supervision of the United Nations and is responsible for the promotion and development of olive cultivation and increasing the consumption of olive oil in the world.

The organization's members account for more than 98% of global olive production. / Tasnim
